Hodor

One morning I found myself walking aimlessly around and stumbled upon a beautiful cedar tree. This tree is stunning. His arms reach out to embrace me like an old friend, while his other branches are lifted high, to praise God. It took several diligent visits to document his grandeur. Eventually, I was able to capture several images to tell his story. Here are some pictures of my dear old friend, Hodor.

A friend told me, “You need treehab.” This was a very funny and clever statement that I happily embraced. I have grown to love trees. I enjoy discovering trees that are unusual in shape. As I write this blog, I am pondering which tree do I share with you: sexy lady, Hodor, honey, or another.

Within the confines of my “Hidden Sanctuary,” there is an almost forgotten cemetery. This cemetery is in the woods and has a very old, ornate wrought iron gate that encloses the graveyard. Some of the graves have sunken into the ground and many of the tombstones are difficult to read. I think some go back to the late 1700s. It is not maintained and almost impossible to get to during the summer. I have trekked back there many times to photograph this historic site in the early morning light and many times in the fog.

Married into Art

“I Move Mountains”, “Grief from the perspective of a Christian man in the 21st Century” is now available on Amazon.

The book is meant to help men who are going through some sort of grief and need some encouragement. It is a small nine-chapter book that includes a bible study for each chapter. It is our hope that this book will encourage men in their walk with each other and Christ.

My artistic ability has been cultivated over many years with the help of my husband. Tommy has a natural talent for art and holds a degree in Fine Art from Georgia State University. I am not sure if there is a Crisp who is not artistic. Writing is also one of his many talents. His first book, “I Move Mountains, “Grief from the perspective of a Christian man in the 21st Century,” now available on Amazon.

The book is meant to help men who are suffering from grief.

Tommy gives his testimony so that it might encourage, inspire, and benefit those who read it. It is a small nine-chapter book that includes a bible study within each chapter. We hope that this book will encourage men as they walk with Christ.

The main event of the story takes place in Clayton, Georgia, and a mountain called Pinnacle Knob. A few weeks ago, Tommy and I went to Clayton to take some photos for the cover of his book. Here are some of the images of Pinnacle Knob and views from Black Rock Mountain State Park.

Hidden Sanctuary

Enjoy these images from my hidden sanctuary.

I am fortunate to work in an environment that encourages me to walk and spend time outdoors. I know the area very well. Outside, nature is my haven, and this area has many unusual things including landscape opportunities. There are several farms nearby that offer amazing views. It has not been uncommon for me to arrive well before sunrise, experiencing the morning fog, or be seen on a nearby roadway taking photos from the bed of my truck.

I have been known to stay late, so I can investigate a decaying tree trunk for mushrooms. Many people seem to be fearful of wildlife, but it is the animals, such as insects, that fill the environment that I love. I am here to embrace it. Here are some of the beautiful creatures that live here.

Al in His Wonder Land

It all begins with an idea.

Al in Wonderland.jpg

Picking up where we left off last week, as I was peering into the woods, Tommy asked me, “What are you looking at?” At first, I honestly did not know. I knew for sure that it was large, white, and seemed out of place. As I got closer to the mystical white phenomenon, I realize it is a beautiful cat nestled into a fantastic tree. He is already framed for the image; all I must do is take his picture and tell his story. Welcome to “Al” in His Wonderland.

More from our seaworthy adventure

It all begins with an idea.

Snail 12x5.jpg

Serenity in the Storm was not the first image of this week-long adventure; it was one of the last. The first images from this excursion were a series of scenes of a beautiful snail. His beautiful burnt orange shell was in great contrast to the salt and pepper color of the asphalt, and I loved the contrast in texture. Texture is one of my favorite things to photograph and Steve, the snail, offered a fun opportunity. As I mentioned in my initial post, sometimes the subject matter might seem silly. But what is really silly, is to see an adult woman laying in the middle of the street photographing a snail.

… Next week we will look at what was hidden in the woods. What is it Tommy asked? I replied, "I am not sure!"

Serenity in the Storm

This is one of my favorite images as well as my preferred photography locations.

This image was taken at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. There was a hurricane off the coast, and we heard that there were fifty miles an hour winds on the other side of the dunes.  As we were walking through the park, we decided to venture to the other side of the dune to see if it was windy.

It was indeed windy. I took a few pictures of the sand as it was blasting me and my equipment. The ocean had some large waves, but the scene was not really anything that grabbed my attention.  It was a little frightening, so I turned around and there it was a dark gray sky with billowing clouds, swaying sea-grass and a blanket of shifting sand. We found “Serenity in the Storm.”

Welcome to my blog.

Welcome

The goal of this blog is to share some of my images with you as well as the experience of the moment.

The most important thing I have learned about photography is that you should photograph for yourself. Take photographs of things you enjoy. You will never please everyone. If you like your image, count it as success. There are many images I have taken and love while others do not show the same appreciation for them, and this is okay. So, it is true, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and even sometimes in the creator.

I am planning on sharing many wonderful images as well as some compositionally wrong images, some that are a silly subject matter, and some may be an all-around bad photo. If all you have from an amazing adventure is a bad photo, be grateful that you have a photo. I hope to share my adventures with you in story and image. I hope you enjoy.
